Is there a name for someone who mistreats animals?

Author: I’m working on a small tale right now, and it’s about this farmer who has a tiny barn next to his house, and he has all these chickens and dogs cooped up in small cages. So I reckon a excellent thought for a title to this would the word for someone who mistreats animals terribly.

I know that a bird-watcher who does not respect the birds that they watch (eg. they ruin the bird’s nest or habitat) is called a "Twitcher".
