How to build and maintain a Chicken Coop

Are hardwood shavings safe to use for chicken litter?

I have been ussing pine shavings as litter in my chicken coop. I have access to lots of hardwood shavings including maple, oak and cherry from a local cabinet maker. Are these excellent to use with my chickens?
What about sawdust? Not just the fine stuff from a table saw but the course sawdust from a chainsaw.

Yes, there fine to use, they help the coop smell better and it absorbs the fecies and urin. sawdusst is fine as well. I just prefer Straw or hay, I used shavings as well I use both, straw on the ground and shavings in the nest boxes.
