Yes, you can build your coop under trees. You are plotting to build a chicken run for them to be able to scratch around right? That should have a couple shade trees over it. You may want to place the fence so that the entire root system of a tree isn’t inside the pen. Chicken manure is strong fertilizer, and it can be too much for a tree.
Why ever under trees? Do you want the coop to be sheltered from rain and snow? Chickens like to be outside pecking here and there. The coop should be dry inside.
fallen leaves and limbs may be a problem. some trees such as oaks also drip sticky sap. oaks drop acorns. pines are really terrible.
Ours is partially under a large oak tree because our summers are so very hot. But we let them out every morning so it doesn’t really matter that much anyway…
