Order to unlock things in Harvest Moon Island of Happiness?

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Alright, so I just got this game and I’m already on Fall like 6 or so, and I’m saving up money to hopefully build a bridge to the Meadow. But, this is pretty expensive and costs a lot more money than I have on hand right now (20,000 G) so I was wondering if there’s a specific order I should have Gannon build things in? For instance, I’ve already upgraded my house and built an Animal Shed, so I get daily income from Milk and fishing, but should I upgrade the Meadow now or spend my money on something else, like a Chicken Coop?

I don't know what to say next?

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

I found the man who went into my childhood home on Facebook. I sent him a message asking him if he lived at that address, and he said he did. We started discussing the improvements to the house that he and his wife had made. I want to keep talking basically because I miss that house and I want to go into it when I’m an adult (I’m 15 now). I don’t know what to say next. He sent me a message containing all the renovations they’d made and said they plot to make one per year in the future. I messaged him back telling him about what the house used to look like before my parents renovated it HEAVILY–built an addition onto it, knocked out walls, that sort of thing–and questioned him if the chicken coop was still there, but I don’t know what to say next. How do I keep the conversation going?
Btw for what it’s worth, I’m worried to mention that I want to go into it when I’m older. should I just not mention it at all?

How Big Should I Make the Coop?

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

I’m plotting on getting about 5 chickens sometime this summer, but I’m not sure how huge I should build the coop so they aren’t cramped. I was plotting on having them completely free-range on our property like the others were, but I have a feeling two of the dogs we have wouldn’t know that they are off-limits and not toys, so I’m going to have a pen in our field for them. The coop would mostly act as a place to roost and lay their eggs, but I’ve never built one before, so any suggestions?
I’m not plotting on letting any of the eggs hatch until I’m the only one left on the property, at which point I will give the chickens even more room. Thanks to anyone who answers :)

chickendiyguides.com book by Mary Nelson – Is it useful?

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Hi
Maybe one of you bought the chicken coop guide by Mary Nelson on chickendiyguides.com and can tell me about his own experience with the guide? I really want to build a chicken coop soon and wonder what will be the simplest guide to follow. If anyone can tell me if the chicken diy guide by Mary Nelson is a excellent one or can recommend about other guide it will be fantastic.
Thanks

Ideas for cheap and creative chicken coop building materials?

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

I am building a chicken coop for 3-6 bantams (about a quarter the size of regular chickens). I’m hoping to spend less than 0 on it, and trying to brainstorm creative materials that would be cheap. I have been scouring Craigslist hoping to find materials, such as small sheds, used coops or rabbit hutches, wood, etc, but no one seems to be selling for cheap, or they get snatched up too quick.

Can you help me come up with thoughts for some non-traditional building materials that might work?

It needs to be predator proof. I get raccoons/coyotes/dogs/cats/hawks in the yard. The minimum size for the enclosed area is 6 square feet, so I was thinking of finding a large tupperware style container, but I want it to be as large as possible. The outdoor area needs to be fully enclosed.

The vital thing is that the chickens will be pleased and healthy. If I can’t afford a cage that meets their needs, then I won’t get chickens. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.
I’m also not sure how to adjust plans for bantams, since they are about 1/4 the weight of regular chickens (about half as tall and wide). Also, I want to get some silkies, which can jump at most 8", and have distress with most perches. People have been telling me to use aviary wire. Is there something better?
