Chicken question? 10 points to best answer!! Advice for my birds?
would it be better if I just made a 25′ by 25′ covered run with the chicken coop inside and let my soon to be in the spring 6 hens free range through out the day? Or I could make like a 50′ by 50′ run and they would be in it all the time. I know they would be more pleased free range but safer contained. Do you reckon that i should just take the chance and free range or???

it really depends on your local wildlife,our chickens run free through out the day (in a field with our two sheep) and go to coop at night (on their own we do get strays on occasion though) but,if you have things like eagles and hawks and things,its a excellent thought to have a top on it,so that they dont get carried off,we had some of that small black mesh stuff to keep birds out,but the snow ruined it,and there are not predator birds much,so theyre fine,you want it to be secure at night as raccoons and skunks and possums like to eat chickens.
