How to build and maintain a Chicken Coop

Chickens in illinois?

Can i keep chickens in bloomingdale illinois incorporated? I have a huge backyard and will make a coop and heater and everything, but i dont know if the law approves and i can not find the answer! I want chickens for the experiene and eggs. Ill get hens only if i need to. Tganks

    you have to contact your local authorities and see if theyre legal to have where you live (hens should be there arent many places theyre illigal) and do some research on chicken care,if your going to get chicks,do research on chick care,and raising,also you should know that you do NOT need a rooster to get eggs,some people reckon you do,but you dont,and a "pullet" is a young hen,a "cockrel" is a young rooster,and a "straight run" is a group of babies that hasnt been sexed,so it can be either males or females,you should also find out if roosters are illigal where you live incase you end up with one (sometimes they can get mixed in with pullets) I dont reccomend getting them from some place like cragslist or something,they wont be sexed.excellent luck!
