Hi
I want to build a cat enclosure so basically a huge enough cage to house all my cats during the night. I want to know what I would need, the materials I will need in order to build something that will really stand and be able to at least hold a few platforms. I was thinking of just getting some chicken coop wire and wrapping around a few poles. Then getting a tarp or some sturdy boars for a roof and floor. I seriously need some direction on how to build something that is comfortable and livable for my cats.
I’m not trying to be mean, its just that my family won’t keep them in the house at night and i don’t like the thought of them roaming around at night. I would rather keep them some place where i know they are safe at night. So please help me with this building instruction.
I’m looking for building thoughts and how to build it correctly.
Thanks in advance.

to construct a decent enclosure is going to require a bit of carpentry knowledge and would help a lot if you have some tools to start with, so if you can do this or know someone that can help you will be a excellent thing.
but i can help you with a couple of thoughts about the actual enclosure, i would suggest to not use the chicken wire the whole way around the enclosure because the cats will most likely get frightened if their open from all angles so they might need at least one of the walls made of ply or something solid. also the inside will have to be dry for them, if its constantly wet or can be rained on they will freak out, like chickens and other cooped animals they need a dry place to rest.
im sorry i cant help you out with the actual construction, i reckon thats going to depend alot on your budget, time to construct, skills and available tools.
Ok You’ll need to dig holes to make posts secure .At least 18" for a four foot tall enclosure.after holes are dug insert poles, compact as you go or add small rocks make sure their straight adding dirt a small at a time.Im sure you can manage from there its not going to be simple to nail the roof on with out a ladder wrap with wire/tarps etc I reckon you’d be better of making it sturdy than large.Excellent luck
A start is to look on the web for rabbit hutches of which there are dozens, some have links to other enclosures.
Otherwise visit some boarding catteries, have a look round and keep your eyes open.
Pallets, often found in skips may be a useful source of free material.
Rose- your trying to do this the cheapest way. Chicken coop wire- no way- there claws can get ripped off in that stuff. If you want it done right get a ancient carpenter that is retired likes you and have him help ya. And Spend some money to do it right- Never pay the cost of doing it incorrect just pay the price. I like ya hon!!!
Hi Rose
Get four metal fence post holders and hammer them into the ground. Place four wooden posts into the holders. Wire three wooden pallets to the fence posts. Place the chicken wire over the pallets then make a door with the chicken wire over a wooden frame. Finally wire a pallet on top to make a roof and line with polythene to keep out the rain.
Preferably do this when there are some men in sight who will immediately come to your help and you will do your "grateful small woman" routine as they complete the job for you.
Excellent luck and best wishes.
By the way, I would rather divorce my family than keep my cats outside!!
