My daughter has an FFA project to grow the largest chicken. We’ve kept their environment very nice, feed them the recommended feed, and supplemented their diet with a few meal worms. For the most part they’re larger than the other chicks, but one student has really outdone us. His chickens are HUGE, and the only thing I’ve spotted is that he has a container of shredded Parmesan in the coop.
Does anyone have any Thoughts about chicken nutrition, or feed tricks?
Thanks,
HK

Chickens used specifically for meat are no longer a purebred type, but a cross between two or more breeds. The male parent line is predominantly of the Cornish breed because of their massive breast muscling and conformation. The female parent is predominantly White Plymouth Rock or New Hampshire which gives to the female parent line excellent egg-producing qualities and moderate muscling qualities. Capons (castrated cocks) produce more and fattier meat.
There are many brilliant poultry feeds available.
If you are interested in mixing your own, this is what I would use.
Feed 10 oz, 280 grams per bird, per day
25 pounds cracked corn
15 pounds ground roasted soybeans
2.5 pounds rolled oats
2.5 pounds alfalfa meal
2.5 pounds fish or bone meal
1 lb aragonite (calcium powder)
1.5 pounds poultry nutri balancer
Keep stress levels down, your birds need to be well watered, warm at night and have access to shade during the day.
bit cruel isnt it? obese chickens…..
To DyNaFeN yeah real fantastic untill the chicken cant glide, roost, walk or even breathe properly.
dont let them drink water and they will get stout ..
also u can place all kinds of food for the chicken so she will try all and get overfed
excellent luck
for the above guy
which is better selling 1 kg chicken or a 3 kg one ? the 3kg can feed 6 people place 1kg one can feed 2
To place weight on a chicken or any other animal can be done via a fatty diet, and high protein (19-20%). A feed nutritionist could help you with that. Breed selection also can aid in size.
