How to build and maintain a Chicken Coop

How to look after a cold chicken egg??

I went out to my chickens this morning, and there was one cold egg in the coop, but it wasn’t there yesterday…

Can I keep it warm myself?
Well, what I have done is place it in a plastic container with hay, and place it under a heat lamp…Will that help?
DO NOT SAY EAT IT!!!
And, it was not there yesterday.

Sometimes a egg might b not fertilised. So the chicken knows & does not try 2 hatch it… So… eat it!

the chicken in the egg will already be dead, i’m worried =[ you could always eat it? i have laying hens, four of them supports 8 people. we haven’t bought carton eggs in years!

Not sure what you really plot to on doing . An egg left in the coop overnight is bound to be cold, fine for table use though,if you are sure the eggs are fertile & you are plotting to incubate ,take it indoors & store in a clean container in a cool place, till you have enough eggs to make it worth the process of incubation, besides looking after a clutch of eggs set to hatch is also a excellent thought ,a single chick will need the same amount of care & attention as you would give to several chicks.

If you want it to hatch, you should have left it with the mother hen. Hens will sit on their eggs if they go broody and that usually won’t be until they have a clutch of several eggs. As long as the eggs don’t get wet, they can sit in the coop/nest box for a few weeks w/o developing. Once the hen starts sitting on them, they all start to develop. This is so all the chicks will hatch near the same time. If the hen sat on each egg as she lays them, she’d have chicks hatching all the time, every day or so! :-)

So I’d place it back in the coop and see what she does. She may or may not go broody, even after laying more eggs, and the egg may not even be fertile. Is she in with a rooster? If you want eggs to hatch, but the hen never goes broody, you can do it yourself with an incubater and you can find lots of into about that online. I reckon letting the hen do it’s best though!

    Excellent luck!
