A few days ago, my dog bit my chicken, killing her. I feel really sorry for my chicken, and really sad about it. I’m also a small bit mad at the dog, but it’s not his fault. All dogs like chickens and want them terribly. It’s in their blood.
My grandma and my brother both reckon we should give away my dog or sell him, but I don’t want to. But now I have to choose if I want him to stay and I get no chickens, or I give the dog away to get chickens.
Because soon our two baby chicks will grow up and I have to place them outside.But then the dog will just bite them. Should I just chain him up most of the time? Or let the chicken’s be cooped up in their coop most of the time?
And I feel really sad about our chicken. I try to forget about it, but her blood stains are still on the cement outside and her feathers are all over. And my brother forgot to take a picture of her so now I’ll forget what she looks like.
I feel like crying every time I reckon about her, but not in the public.
Thanks all. Now I’m not that sad about losing my chicken, but I want chickens and I want the dog too. I didn’t buy the dog so I can have a pet, I just found him on my lawn and I wanted to keep him. My chicken hasn’t even layed any eggs, it was just five months ancient. I reckon I’ll keep my dog until my chicks grow up and then I’ll give him to my neighbor if she wants him.

An alternative option to choosing either the chickens or the dog is to build a special fenced area of your garden where the chickens are housed and will be kept safe from the dog. It would be better if you place the chickens in a chicken coop because the dog doesn’t want to be chained up all the time. Chickens can live in coops while dogs don’t live well chained up.

You should get a puppy and have it grow up with the chickens then he would be use to them and know how to behave around. Although you should have train your ancient dog how to treat chickens.
Why should the chicken suffer and the dog suffer? Its your fault for not keeping a eye on them both what would you reckon will happen. I say give your dog to someone who will like it and play with it and care for it. And don’t ever get another dog.

Dog or chickens? Too simple. The dog. What kind of companion is a chicken? jeez.
Keep both – Place a fence around the chicken coop to keep your dog out and make a dog run for your dog so he doesn’t have to be chained up.
Not all dogs want chickens and it is not in their blood. Our dogs don’t want anything to do with chickens unless it’s killed, skinned, and in their food dish.
I would give the hens away and keep the dog. If you don’t have a dog proof enclosure for your hens to get fresh air, exercise and peck in, it would be pure foolishness to let them loose with the dog. Another option would be to fence an area to keep the dog in when he (she?) is outside. Chickens grow up quick, lay eggs for a year or two and then usually get killed and eaten. I like pet chickens but dogs are more fun.
But, if you can’t keep the hens and the dog apart, then YOU have to choose what YOU are going to do.
Chain ancient dude up if you really want the chicks to run loose but should also train chicken to stay away from doggy LOL,Dogs will kill a chicken while just playing with them their hands is their mouth and besides dogs are born predators that is whats in their blood not disliking chickens.

Both dogs and chickens need their exercise.The dog will want a bird no matter what kind. It is the same with all dogs. My dogs chase them all the time making me place the chickens in their outside coop. Were they run around till night fall were they go inside the indoor coop. or when my dogs are inside they go free range. Both the chicks and the dog can’t always be tied up. Our dogs run free with electric fence. you can by a cage thing like at a pet store for the dog or to even place the chicks in. My ducks are in one of them.

No need to get ride of the dog for that!!
Build a chicken coop with an outside extension to protect them from all predators, not just your dog. Attend obedience training classes with your dog so he starts to know that you are in charge of both him and the chickens.
My chickens are confined to their coop and fully fenced yard when I’m not at home. When I am at home my dogs respect that I do not allow any chicken chasing or stalking, except when my cattle dogs round them up for me in the evening.
Maybe you should of taken your dog to KFC or Popeyes for some excellent chicken……I am dearly sorry to hear about your chicken, on a excellent side there will be no more eggs in the henhouse…If the dog does it again…….get a cat, they like chicks…….
