I am doing my technolgy project and i have to build a chicken coop which has to open automatically and close automatically in the night.I want to know how can i open my door other than a pulley.

Use a photo eye and a linear actuator. The photo eye will turn on at dusk and off at dawn. The actuator can be used to open and close the door. You’ll need a few more things a relay, possible a transformer (depends on the actuator you use) and possible an over ride switch.
You could also use a timer instead of a photo eye.
