we have our mating pair of ducks in with our chickens in the chicken coop. they all get a long just fine. our female duck lays her eggs in the corner of the chicken coop so we have just left them there hoping she will lay on them when she gets enough. when we do into the coop everyday to collect chicken eggs out of their boxes, we find the duck eggs buried with straw? is this normal for ducks to do this, or do you reckon the chickens are doing this?

the duck will make its nest kinda like that and will cover her eggs when she aint sitting on them with straw, feathers, etc….
So she could be ready to start incubating.
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!!!!!!!
I dont reckon the chickens are doing it.
I reckon the duck is probably doing it. We’ve got a couple female ducks here and they seem to kick the sawdust over their eggs too.
I know some ducks in the wild are ground nesting (i don’t know if this applies to pekins or not) and will cover over their nests so as to hide them.
But watch your chickens around them though- especially since the eggs aren’t in a nest box. You know how chickens like to break and eat eggs- I don’t know if it’s really a huge concern but I know that sometimes if an egg is out of place (not in a nest box) the girls will reckon it’s honest game…
