Depends on where you live and how many chickens you are going to have. A shed for their warmth, wood & chicken wire for a yard area. Baby chicks need to be kept warm for a while, so you need to keep a heat lamp on them. Fence needs to be tall, and if you bury the fence at least 1 foot, then that will hape keep predators from digging in from under the fence. Coop needs to be tight, to keep predators from getting in. My friend built the coop off the ground by 1 foot and place in a sturdy wooden floor with chicken roosting boxes. This site clarifies things really well:
